While Saturday was a pretty low key day, Sunday definitely was not. It was full of great experiences, but full nonetheless. Our morning began with church at Alianza Christiana del Valle. Our students loved how energetic the worship was and the passion with which the worship team led. Pastor Jorge preached on the Holy Spirit, and we were introduced to the church. Alianza has recently transitioned to offering 2 services, so we were introduced twice. After church, we stopped for lunch at a nice authentic Mexican restaurant, and then headed back to the hotel for small groups. After lunch each day during the trip, we have and will continue to gather our students together in their rooms for small groups. We discuss the events of the previous day, process what we saw and did, and then talk a little about what it could mean back home. It’s one way we are living out our trip theme: See different, do different, be different.
Around 5pm, we drove back at the church (which is about a 25 minute drive). We met up with our translator team and walked to nearby neighborhoods to invite kids to VBS. With pamphlets in hands, our students went door to door inviting people to church. It was a really good experience for our students, and it helped us bond with our translators.
Dinner was served back at the hotel. As we ate, we received a little bit of an orientation through Harvest Ministries, our mission organization partnership for this week. One of our translators, Enrique, shared how he came to trust Jesus through a Harvest Ministries Reynosa trip 14 years ago. We were encouraged by the potential opportunity we have to help draw more people closer to Jesus this week, and we planned out the following days ministry teams.
Another update will (hopefully) be out soon! Please pray for opportunities for our students to share the hope they have in Jesus with the people we meet in morning ministries, and the kids we serve during our evening VBS this week.
