Welcome to our McAllen blog! As I write this, our team is slowing waking up after their first night in McAllen, Texas. There is not a whole lot to report from our travel days, which I suppose is a good thing. We left Constance at around 9:30am on Friday, drove through the night, and arrived in McAllen at about 1pm on Saturday - clocking in at 27.5 hours of travel. So far, all 36 members of our team are doing well.
After lunch, we checked into our hotel, got settled in, had some time by the pool, and then explored a local mall. We ate dinner back at the hotel, and then had our first poolside worship time. In past trips, this tends to be a highlight for many students. We begin with singing, and then allow students some time to share a story. This could be a story of how they began to trust in Jesus, or how they are growing in Jesus, or even something hard they are currently going through. After they share, someone else speaks into their story with a word of encouragement, or a gospel truth. It has already been an incredibly powerful and worshipful experience!
Today, we are looking forward to connecting with our partner church, Alianza Christiana del Valle. We will join them for their worship services, and then go into the neighborhood to pass out invitation fliers to this week’s vacation bible school.
