Today's post comes from Elise Kelley. She is a recent high school graduate and has served on our McAllen team for the past 3 years:
Tuesday was my first house visit, and my team (the Bagel Team) was assigned to visit a family with two teenagers suffering from the effects of psoriasis, and had stopped attending church because they were afraid of what others would think of them. Our group of 12 or so got to the house, but there was a miscommunication with the family and no one was home. So we were sent back and assigned a new family to visit, a family that had just lost their mother suddenly due to a complication with her diabetes. This just shows how things go down here! We always need to be flexible and willing to accept the changes that come. Once my group arrived to comfort Armando and his family for their loss, Pastor Joel from Gateway connected with him immediately and offered amazing advice on how to deal with a loss.
We then went back to the church for a delicious meal of ground beef, veggies, and potatoes all mixed together with a side of corn tortillas and rice and beans. I don’t remember the name of the dish but it was good
