It was the halfway point of our ministry week on Wednesday, and though we were beginning to feel fatigue settle in, God has been providing us with strength for a day that was a little unordinary.
Our morning was spent a little differently than normal. Instead of going on house visits, we were invited by a Christian radio station to visit their facilities and hear about the heart behind their ministry. It was a fun change of pace for the team. We explored the recording stations, and one of our team leaders, Nils Anderson, was actually interviewed on the air! He told about our mission trip, his love for the McAllen community, and some of the things we've done down here.
We invited our translator team to our hotel to enjoy the pool in the afternoon. Our translator team consists of high school and college students from Alianza, so our students have developed a pretty good friendship with them.
Our evening was a little different, as well. Instead of hosting VBS for the children, the whole church gathered for a worship service. It's pretty customary for this church to hold services on Sunday and Wednesday night, but this time Joel Nelson, the leader of our ministry partner Harvest Ministries, preached the message. He spoke on the Holy Spirit and how we need to to be filled in order to grow. It was very impactful for the church, and our students as well.
We closed the night worshiping around the pool and sharing stories. God is on the move in our group. During poolside worship, one student said it well: While this trip has been a little different, the sense of community that has been developed within our group has made a huge impact!
