May 2021 Trip - Day 4

May 27, 2021

Another beautiful sunny day in Lake Charles. Eloise made a delicious breakfast of biscuits and gravy. We appreciate her culinary skills! Then Daniel did a devotional on 'But, God".  Reminding us that no matter what the circumstances, God is sovereign. Psalm 73:26 "My flesh and heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Today was a closer examination of the devastation in the area. Downtown the glass of the Capital One building was blown out by Hurricane Laura in August 2020. There are abandoned buildings and blue tarps to cover roofs from wind damage almost anywhere you look.

The resiliency of the people of Lake Charles is commendable. Even through four major weather events in the last nine months (including two hurricanes, freezing temps, snow, and most recently flooding), they are picking up the pieces and rebuilding. Many of the people we've spoken to say they are blessed not to have lost everything.

We saw God move in the lives of the homeowner and his family. We gutted the bottom two feet of the interior of the house to remove wet, moldy insulation and wallboard. He was concerned about finding an apartment because housing is scarce. "But God" provided an apartment available in early June. We are blessed and humbled by our awesome Almighty God.
